Splash pads full of kids, a skate park that's busy by 4 p.m., and the Niagara Escarpment just up the road. Alton Village is North Burlington's newest family neighbourhood, and it was designed from scratch around the way young families live today.
Development started in the mid-2000s, and the area has grown into a complete community: schools, a library, a rec centre, big parks and shopping, all inside the neighbourhood. Here's the inside scoop.

Why People Love Living in Alton Village
1. Everything families need, within the neighbourhood
The Haber Community Centre, the Alton branch of Burlington Public Library and Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School share one campus on Tim Dobbie Drive, so gym programs, library story time and high school are all in the same place. Locals love the library's big fireplace on winter afternoons.
2. Parks that are actually fun
Norton Community Park is the neighbourhood's largest green space, with a skate park, splash pad, basketball courts, sports fields, playgrounds and a leash-free dog area. Palladium Park and Doug Wright Park add soccer, baseball and more playgrounds, and a walking trail connects Walkers Line to Appleby Line.
3. Modern homes, less maintenance
Most homes are less than 20 years old, with open-concept layouts, modern mechanicals and attractive brick-and-stone exteriors. For buyers who don't want a renovation project, that's a big draw.
4. The escarpment is right next door
Just north of the 407 are the trails and lookouts of the Niagara Escarpment, including Mount Nemo Conservation Area, a short drive away. You get weekend hikes and fall colours without a road trip.

A Nod to History
The neighbourhood takes its name from the Alton family, early settlers in the area. The historic Thomas Alton farmhouse, dating to around 1860, is a reminder that this was farmland not long ago.
Homes in Alton Village: What Your Money Buys
- Townhomes: a popular first step into freehold ownership in North Burlington.
- Semi-detached & detached homes: modern family layouts, often with double garages. Lots are generally smaller than in older neighbourhoods.
- Condos & live/work units: lower-maintenance options close to shopping and the 407.
Schools in Alton Village
Local schools include Alton Village Public School and St. Anne Catholic Elementary School (both JK–8), plus Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School and Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School for older students.
School boundaries change, and some schools cap enrolment. Always confirm the school for a specific address with the Halton District School Board or Halton Catholic District School Board before you firm up an offer — it's one of the first things I check for my buyers.
What to Know Before You Buy
- Smaller lots are the trade-off for newer homes. If a big backyard is a must, compare with older neighbourhoods like Millcroft.
- Parking matters on townhome streets. Check driveway length, garage size and street-parking rules.
- Highway noise. Homes closest to the 407 or main roads can hear the traffic, so visit at rush hour.
